Stephan Niehaus, born near Osnabrück, Germany, in 1968, studied product design at the HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd from 1993 to 1997 after working as a technical draughtsman. During his subsequent engagement at Busse Design Ulm, he came into contact with the Liechtenstein company Hilti. At Proform Design he designed numerous products and studies for Hilti, which won many awards.
After becoming Head of Product Design at Kiska Stephan Niehaus moved to the Hilti Group in 2003 to define the design of a holistic, strategically oriented brand design. The Hilti design team managed by him was awarded with the “red dot: design team of the year” prize in 2010.
From 1996 to 2003, Niehaus designed products for Hilti, Zeiss, Bosch-Rexroth, Kärcher, Metabo, Rössle, WMF and Kiddy. At Hilti, as Head of Corporate Product Design, he is responsible for the internal, global design team as well as for the design quality and consistency of all products, their ergonomics and packaging.
In addition, Niehaus lectures on the subject of design in various committees and has been a juror in design competitions such as the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany, the iF Design Award and the Bavarian State Prize for Young Designers.
