Kunstmuseum Basel

The Kunstmuseum Basel houses the oldest public art collection in the world and is considered one of the most important museums in Switzerland.
Its collection includes paintings, drawings and sculptures from the early 15th century to the present. The museum consists of three buildings: Hauptbau, Gegenwart and Neubau. The former was opened in 1936 as a collection-only building and expanded in 2016 with the Neubau across the street, where special exhibitions and collection presentations are displayed. The Gegenwart building has been showing works of contemporary art from the collection of the Kunstmuseum Basel and the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation since 1980.
